The 5th Gospel Christians Team of Iraqis - Bassam, Steven, Aram, Putros and Waseem

Taking ownership - the best way forward

Last week 5th Gospel Christians’ team of Iraqi volunteers set to work to feed just under 400 Iraqi refugees to help keep them going for a fortnight.

With Covid-19 and lockdown, what minimal help existed for the refugees had disappeared. Alerted, 5th Gospel checked the family lists and 87 households with our refugee friends; Riven and the team chose their trusted supermarket and the food, so there’d be no waste. Generous friends in the UK gave the donations which were sent straight to Melad and his family supermarket in Madaba. The guys got to work, selecting, weighing, and packing so the girls could call the families one by one to collect in safety without crowding, and all would be signed for peacefully. The bags were so heavy, only the men could carry them.

Beautifully organised and great team work. Well done and thank you Madaba team!
